Equipment

I have used many different pieces of equipment within my music video; some for the performance, others for the narrative and some for both. Each bit of equipment was just a vital as the next for producing my music video and making it the best that it could be.

Performance:

My music video was filmed on an iPhone 7 which was useful because the camera quality is of a extremely high-standard on that type of phone and therefore, meant that my video would have clear, picture-perfect scenes. When I wanted long-shots of the band, the iPhone 7 would be placed balancing on a camera tripod in order to receive a steady, continuing shot without having any shaky camera movements. To be able to perform as a band, we borrowed a drum kit, a guitar (+strap), a microphone and a microphone stand. These props all complemented each other as the colours co-ordinated well and the placement of each piece of equipment followed the typical placement that is seen in other alternative rock music videos. Other equipment that was used included lights that were in the drama room and could be adjusted to create different moods and levels of lighting. We mostly used the normal, bright yellow lights as these made the shots clearer and more detailed whilst also, conforming to the typical conventions of my genre's music video. In the other room used for performance, there were two, big, dome lights used to show detail and produce as much light as possible in order to create the semantic of us being a professional band.

Narrative:

The most important piece of equipment used for the narrative was the iPhone 7 which was once again, used for the camera due to its high-quality features. This allowed for scenes to be zoomed in/out, rotated and edited before importing them onto the iMacs. For some shots (mid-shots, long-shots, close-ups), the tripod was used in order to film a steady, accurate clip whereas, other times the phone would just be handheld and filmed like that as it was quick and still effective. The lighting for the narrative section of my music video was mostly produced by the sunlight and the natural lighting from outside however, when it was dark, lights inside the location would be turned on or another iPhone would be used to turn on their flashlight and produce more lighting.
