Audience Questionnaire
The first question I asked for my audience survey was the gender of the person answering. This wasn't a particularly important question however, it was helpful to see if I had a balance of males and females in regards to my results. Therefore, I'd be able to tell which gender has influenced my following questions more than the other. As you can see, there are two more females that have completed my questionnaire that there are males.
This question is similar to the first in terms of establishing who my audience were, this allows me to know rough ages of the people answering my survey. The majority of people were between the ages of 16-25 which is good due to the fact that this is similar ages to my target audience. Two people were 36 and over which is also helpful because I have a slight range of ages and would allow me to have a maturer set of results.
I asked this question in order to find out if people still listen to music very often, which they do. This is helpful to know as it means that music is still very popular with most people listening to it daily.
This question received a range of different answers which was expected as everyone is different. The majority of the group of people that I asked answered 'Pop' as their favourite genre of music to listen to. This is unsurprising as pop is very popular and listened to all over the world. There are also so many various artists and bands that fall under the pop genre such as Avril Lavigne who also falls under the pop punk and alternative rock genres. Therefore, even though pop is the most popular genre of music from my survey, the artists fit into lots of other genres, including my genre of alternative rock, meaning that people would most likely enjoy listening to my particular genre of music too. Alternative rock was the second most popular answer taken form my questionnaire which is positive as it backs up the idea that people would listen to the song that I am producing a music video for and help to promote my band.
This question was vital for my survey as it helped to determine how popular my production could be. Everyone but one person I asked said yes to ever listening or potentially listening to my genre of alternative rock. This is a positive result as it shows that my music video would be liked and enjoyed by the majority of people because most people like the type of music or would at least give it a chance.
My favourite name for my alternative rock band was 'Amore' which was also my audiences preferred option. This is good as it shows that my preferences are similar to my target audiences and therefore, things that I like, they would also like and would most likely enjoy my music video too. Due to me choosing my audiences favourite option for the name of my band, this would make them feel valued as it shows that they have had a say in my bands name.
This question was quite important as the main storyline in my music video is about the character suffering from a mental health problem. The majority of people answered yes which is good as it means that the audience would be more likely to understand and correctly decode the narrative side of my music video. However, those that answered no would be less likely to decipher the plot whereas, those that were unsure may be able to if they are open to the idea of my genre and mental health issues being related.
By receiving these answers, this helped me to decide what colour clothing me and the rest of the people in my music video would be wearing. Most people chose the option of block, plain colours for what they think stereotypically links with the alternative rock genre. Because of these results I decided to wear black and white checks as well as dark jeans and a dark skirt. I also instructed my metaphorical depression character to wear all plain, black clothing and told my band to wear plain clothes.
This was also an important question as this enabled me to decide what type of music video I would include most of in my music video. The fact that people chose narrative made me include more narrative scenes as opposed to performance or conceptual ones. I also included a strong, long-winded storyline due to the fact that people enjoy watching narrative more than anything else.
This question helped me to understand how popular my music video would be. From my results, it showed me that people watch music videos more than those that don't. Therefore, my final production will have a number of views and receive some publicity.
